Coronation Street’s Kit Green is set to move on from Sarah Platt, sharing a passionate night with a mystery person. With Sarah behind bars for the murder of Theo Silverton, she ended her relationship with Kit last month to protect his career and give him a fresh start.

On Monday (7 September), Kit is asleep on the sofa when someone sneaks out of the bedroom and scuttles past him to let themselves out.

When Kit wakes, he opens his eyes to a photo of himself and Sarah, feeling guilty about the previous night’s actions.

Later, he receives devastating news at a consultant appointment, which confirms he has stage three breast cancer and that it’s spread to his lymph nodes.

Kit calls at the Rovers, where Debbie’s birthday celebrations are in full swing. Pasting on a smile, he announces he’s ready to party, knocking back a drink as Bernie watches on with concern.

Speaking about the tough time his character has had over the past few months, actor Jacob Roberts touched on Kit’s relationship with Sarah, saying he felt like second choice after she chose Gary to help her with the crime.

He said: “I think because it’s been going on for a while and he knows that he was always second choice, his ego has been damaged. I think he still tries, but it’s sort of left that… the more he tries to help Sarah, the less he’s going to help himself and it’s going to affect his career.”

He added: “So I think he’s thinking that it’s maybe too much now because he’s done all he can, really.”

Asked about Kit’s upcoming encounter with a mystery woman, the actor said: “Well technically, Sarah let him go, so Kit hasn’t cheated, I’d say.

“Obviously, it’s still raw. He just thinks, ‘you know what? I’m not having it. I’m not being told what to do. I’m just going to go there and I’m going to have a bit of fun’.”

He added: “And I think it comes with the whole thing that he’s just found out he’s got some bad news. So he’s sort of like, ‘I’m just going to do it’.”

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
