Neighbours legend Stefan Dennis has opened up about the ending of the hit Australian soap, which aired its final episode in December last year. Stefan played Paul Robinson, one of the show’s central protagonists and longest-serving cast members.
Neighbours aired for a total of 40 years – the show initially ended in 2022, before being revived for a two-year run on Amazon. The second cancellation of the show shocked fans, as Neighbours regularly topped the ‘most-watched shows’ list on Prime Video UK.
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap ahead of a starring role in stage play The King’s Speech, Stefan shed new light on the ending of the beloved soap which devastated so many fans.

“It was a very different ending because we’d had such a big bang send off the previous one,” Stefan mused. “This one, I’m not saying it petered out, but it was a little more, ‘okay, this is happening, we’re all used to the fact that it’s going to go down.’
“The time before that it was like, ‘What, it’s ending? No, we can’t, we’ve got to save it, somebody’s going to save it.’ This time I’m kind of like, ‘Yeah, that’s it. It’s had its day. Let’s move on and remember it.'”

Although Stefan is now playing speech therapist Lionel Logue in the UK tour of The King’s Speech, he reflected that the time he spent working on the show will always be meaningful to him and his castmates.
“I’m actually missing a very big Neighbours reunion in December. They’re having a massive reunion that I can’t go to,” he said. “So yeah, I think it’ll stay with us forever. All of us that worked on it, it’ll stay with us forever.”

Neighbours concluded in December 2025, but classic episodes are available to watch via Prime Video and YouTube.
