Hollyoaks has confirmed that suspicion will fall on James Nightingale following Ste Hay’s upcoming disappearance. Yesterday (30 August), the Channel 4 soap announced a major autumn storyline in which Ste Hay will go missing under mysterious circumstances.
In this week’s scenes, Gemma gives Mercedes a spa day voucher for the following day. Unaware that Gemma is secretly plotting to get rid of her for good, Mercedes invites Leela and Ste, hoping it will distract Ste from his grief over Rex’s death and recent relapse.
In a special episode airing on 2 September, Ste makes the group pull over at a shopping centre, pretending he needs the toilet.

As Ste wanders through the crowd, he encounters several strange characters. As the disoriented character attempts to leave, he vanishes without a trace, leaving Leela and Mercedes to return to the village in search of answers.
With the villagers coming together to help, they also point their fingers, with Ste’s ex James at the top of the list of potential suspects. The story is set to come to a head in early October.
Scenes set to air on Monday 7 September see Ste’s loved ones as they deal with the aftermath of his disappearance. As Leah and Lucas sleep on the boat following their long night of the soul, Imran wakes them and tells them that Leela has been calling.
He explains to them that Ste vanished during a pit stop at a shopping centre on the way to the spa, with Leah reasoning that people don’t just vanish into thin air and he must be sleeping off his relapse.
Meanwhile, Mercedes and Leela return to Hollyoaks after their search proves hopeless, praying they will find him at home.
Back in the Lomaxes, Lucas is haunted by the events that happened between him and his dad over the years, and Imran finds Lucas distraught and having a panic attack.

“James is totally baffled when he’s accused of being responsible for Ste’s disappearance,” said our Hollyoaks insider. “He loves him and wants nothing more than a quiet life now that they’re back together in the village again.”
“Sadly, James’ reputation for dodgy dealings and shady activity precedes him, so the likes of Leela and Mercedes reckon he has something to hide! It’ll take a lot for James to convince them all that he’s innocent…”
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
