If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you’ve probably seen them: people standing, squatting, or stretching on vibrating ‘plates’ that promise everything from lymphatic drainage to muscle tone and weight loss.

Vibration training isn’t technically new. Scientists in the 1960s, particularly in East Germany and the Soviet Union, began exploring whole-body vibration as a way to stimulate muscles and bone.
